Pure water is hypotonic for the cell so the water will enter into the cell by osmosis and the cell will swell up and there are good chances of it bursting due to turger pressure like what happens with RBCs. ... Animal cells are surrounded only by the membrane and may swell up and burst if too much water enters by osmosis.
