What will the polarity be of one end of a solenoid if the current appears to be flowing anticlockwise in it ? What is the use of soft iron in an electromagnet ? Name the device which is used to draw magnetic field lines .

Soft iron acts as a temporary electromagnet whereas if you use steel it will become permanent electromagnet..

The solenoid carrying current acts like a bar magnet . One end of the solenoid becomes the N - pole and other end becomes the S - pole .

End rule is used to determine the polarity of the solenoid ends .

Considering on end of the solenoid , if the circular face of the current flows in the anticlockwise direction , the that end becomes the N - pole and if the current flows in the clockwise direction , the that end becomes the S - pole .
