Homo Erectus, an earlier version of hominid that Homo Sapiens and Homo Neanderthal, apparently had knowledge of fire but not of metals or wheels. Homo Erectus spread around the world without these things. Both existed for long periods of time on earth without metals or wheels. Homo Sapiens stood on the shoulders of these other humans. Only in the last few thousands of years did metal and wheels come along.
