If meiosis does not occur , an egg or sperm could end up with too many chromosomes, or not enough chromosomes. Upon fertilization, the baby could then receive an extra chromosome (called a trisomy), or have a missing chromosome (called a monosomy).

Hey,

Meiosis is helpful in generating haploid individuals and recombinations in the progeny. That is the reason why all progeny through sexual reproduction is different from parents.

let us consider the same condition to occur in Humans itself..

You might be knowing that humans in diploid condition have 46 chromosomes..

If meiosis doesn't occur, the gametes contain diploid no. of chromosomes and the zygote resluted will be polyploid.

If meiosis doesn't occur there is no chance for major recombinations to occur and then in such case all the individuals look alike..

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.
