acids : a substance which is sharp and sour in taste , turns blue litmus to red and having ph less than 7 is called acid

base : a substance which is soapy in touch and bitter in taste and turns red litmus to blue

when acid and a base reacts together then they cancel each other's effect and forms a salt this is called neutralization reaction
