The steel will float if we make the upthrust it will experience by water more or equal to its weight.
Let V be the volume of steel immersed in water.
so it will displace V volume of water.
Upthrust on this=Vdg
d is the density of water=1g/cc
Upthrust=Vdg
=10V
weight of 1 gram of steel=7.8g
to float,
7.8 x 10=10V
v=7.8cc
so, if we are given 1 gram steel, if we beat it and bend it such a way that its volume is more than 7.8cc(may be in the shape of boat)
then it will float.
