When he must have found out he was wrong, he would have promised never to repeat the mistake again.

  • As Gandhiji's elder brother had a debt to pay, to support him to pay back, he took a little amount of gold from brother's armlet.
  • Later, his act of stealing made him feel guilty. He did not want his father to be hurt, but he could not bear the shame of living with him. Hence he wanted to confess his father.
  • He then confessed in a letter to his dear father that he had stolen it and justly demanded sufficient punishment for his wrongdoing.
  • He also requested his father to punish him for the unacceptable action and vowed he would never steal again.
