There are actually many things which may happen. But I will highlight main phenomenons :-

1) Due to excess water, it will provide breeding grounds for mosquitoes

2) Natural replenishment of soil will not take place

3) No proper photosynthesis, respiration would take place for a while

4) Health of plant will be affected

  • If a potted plant is over watered, its roots will not get enough oxygen to breathe as water fills up the airspaces present between the soil particles. This will cause decaying of the root and ultimately the plant dies.
