Trees are known as best soil holders. Roots of trees get deep in the ground and hold the soil tightly , if you cut the trees soil erosion will take place.

when wind blows ,soil travels with the wind hence fertility of land decreases. if it rains heavily and trees are not there a large amount of soil with the flow with the water in the rivers , lakes.
