What would happen if mangroves have normal roots instead of breathing roots?

The mangrove soil is anaerobic, that is, oxygen poor as well as unstable and mangroves have root adaptations such as breathing roots (or aerial roots) to cope with these conditions. If they have breathing roots, they'll not be able to survive.
