if mountain plants weren't conical , the plants would probably die. mountain plants are conical because they need their structure to shed off the snow during winter if they were in some other shape then there would hold the snow in them and therefore fall due to weight. also only the mountain Areas where snow falls occur have to be conical. at mountains where there is no snowfall it doesn't really matter what shape the trees are.
