What would happen if rhe phloem at the base of a branch is removed and xylem of root of a plant is blocked

in plants, phloem is responsible for the trnasportation of food.

thus, if phloem is removed from a plant , then there will be no medium for the plant for the supply of food and the plants will not be able to get the required nutrients. so, the plants may die.
