what would happen if the beaker contained a less concentrated solution (say half teaspoonful sugar/salt in 100 ml water) and the thistle funnel (or the pit) contained more concentrated solution (say two teaspoonful sugar/salt in 100 ml water)? will the level of solution in the thistle funnel (or the pit) lower, or higher or the same ?

a very nice question.
the solution in the beaker is hypotonic as compared to the solution in the funnel
therefore water will flow from beaker to funnel so water level will rise in the funnel
