The decomposers help in decomposing the dead bodies of plants and animals, and hence act as a cleansing agents of environment. Secondly, it is only due to the presence of decomposers that the various nutrients return back to the soil, air and water after the death of plants and animals.

If they are not present, the nutrient elements will not be replenished and the garbages will be dumped everywhere and also the cyclic process of life and death will be disrupted.

Ecosystem imbalance will take place .if decomposers would not be there the nutrition will not return to the soil and due to soil infertility the plants will die. Eventually all the diverse living forms will start dissapearring as they depend on each other directly or indirectly for nutrition

and the place would result into a desert with no life.
