what would happen if the plasma membrane ruptures or break down?

If in case plasma membrane get broken up then the cell would die as it wouldn't be able to sustain itself.

The cell won't be able to carry out osmosis i.e, carrying the spontaneous net movement of solvent molecules through a semi-permeable membrane into a region of higher solute concentration, in the direction that tends to equalize the solute concentrations on the two sides.
