if the plasma membrane reptures or break down then the cell will not be able to exchange materials from it's surrounding through diffusion or osmosis...then the protoplasmic material will vanish and the cell will die..

Plasma membrane regulates movement of substances in and out of the cell due to rupture of plasma membrane there will be no regulation on the movement of molecules secondly content of the cell may leak out thus the cell will die
