While discom is collecting fines from consumers for drawing power more than their sanctioned load or demand, there seems to be lack of awareness among consumers about the maximum limit of load for a domestic connection and how it is calculated. For domestic connection, the permissible maximum connected load is 3KW at single phase and a commercial connection is must for load of 110KW or more.
In both domestic and commercial connection, when a consumer is spotted drawing power more than the sanction load, then they are levied power factor penalty and/or demand charges.
