If there is no alkaline medium in small intestine, then the enzymes which are released in this part will not work.

1st reason

The enzymes that works in the small intestine requires an alkaline pH. They cannot work in acidic conditions or mediums.

2nd reason

Acidic pH will damage the small intestine as this part is not adpated to cope with acidic situations. So, the pH has to be made alkaline.

The medium is made alkaline in the small intestine by the bile (which is a alkaline substance) released by pancreas.

If the small intestine does not contain any alkaline medium all the strong acids might damage the lining inside our intestine.

Explanation:

  • An alkaline medium is highly required so that the complex molecules can further break into simple ones.
  • Moreover, enzyme synthesis would stop. The small intestine also plays a very large role in our process of digestion.
  • Certain alkaline PH is required so that there are proper working conditions.
