Running tap water goes off, as does electricity. There might still be water in tanks and pipes, but the pumps are all off. The simple machine lever that lets you flush your toilet breaks, you can open the tank and manually release the valve to flush… once. Then you hope you have an outhouse or Porta-John or sopme woods nearby, or you at using buckets for your waste. Your vehicles don’t work, not even your bicycle or skateboard… wheels are simple machines. Not that you can leave your house anyway, hinges are simple machines too and now they are all frozen or broken. You have done good in your pantry and maybe some bottled water, but it isn’t going to last long, and preparation involves lighting a fire someplace somehow. About 90% of humanity would either starve to death within a year, or die fighting each other over the last of the food and clean water. It would be a nasty fight at that, simple weapons at close range, among people fighting for their survival.
