If there was no restrictions on the power of elected representatives then there would be tyranny of the elected representative. The country would become a monarchy. Fundamental rights would not be available to the people.

The country would no more remain a democracy. The government then doesn't needs to be accountable to people.

There will be no one to protect minorities from the atrocities of majority and the state would not be secular.
