The small intestine in our digestive track is mainly involve in the absorption of nutrients from food.

There are small villi on the inner surface of small intestine which increases the surface area of small intestine and enhance the rate of absorption.

These villi are protrusions of ‘epithelial cells’ that enhance the surface area. If the small intestine would be completely smooth, the rate of absorption of nutrients from food will decreases.
