Here is the answer-

In much the same way nuclear fusion works, actually in almost the same way, you would generate an unbelievable amount of energy, killing anything in the general area, with something like a nuclear explosion.

Let me explain. Most nuclear weapons are so called fission bombs, meaning that they break apart an atom (kinda), and release the energy inside.

The difference is that those huge atoms they use are kept together by something called weak force, which has a lot of energy in it, but not that much, hence why nukes need a lot of these heavy elements to reach critical mass and let out all the energy in a blast.

However, that is just WEAK force. Most atoms, the stable ones, are bound together by something called strong force. Splitting these atoms in the same way you traditionally split an atom would require tons of energy, but you might theoretically get away with it.

But splitting an atom in half is a different story, you would be splitting the nucleus completely apart, meaning that you would need to A) counteract strong force, and B) have a blast, literally, as all that energy flies out, and causes an explosion.

Depending on what atom you split, and how many atoms, you could make a mega-nuke, and the effect of it instantly detonating should be self explanatory.

Note that this will only happen to certain atoms that are not as stable as most naturally occurring elements.

I hope it helps you !
