What would happen in the respiratory system if there was no diaphragm? Why is the diaphragm so important in breathing?

Without diaphragm air cannot able to come into our body.It makes the area of lungs more.

Answer:

Diaphragm protect to our chest muscles and it protect to alveoli and bones of chest. In respiration when we intake of air then its size increase and and when we release then its size decreases.....
