Artificial satellites usually slow down and are no longer able to resist the pull of gravity so they fall back to Earth.
Satellites can slow down intentionally and control their descent. For example Mir space station was a controlled crash in the South Pacific. Satellites carry fuel to help maintain their orbits. When the fuel runs out they fall back to the ground.
