When the organisms die, the carbon remains locked in their bodies.Decomposers are able to break down this material and release carbon back into the atmosphere and the cycle can begin again. Without decomposers, the carbon would remain locked in dead organisms and could only be released through combustion.

Answer:

Decomposers are microorganisms like bacteria and fungi that breakdown the dead remains and waste products of organisms. They convert complex organic substances into simple inorganic substances which go into the soil and are taken up again by the plants. In these ways, they help to keep the environment clean.

In the absence of decomposers, the dead remains and waste products of organisms will remain as such and breakdown will not take up. The cycle of life and death will also be disrupted. When the decomposers breakdown the waste products and dead remains of organisms, they also release nutrients into the environment. In their absence, these nutrients will not be released and plants may become defficient in these nutrients. Some organisms may also cease to exist due to the lack of these nutrients.
