What would happen to something burning if there was bo nitrogen in the air only oxygen and tiny amounts of carbon dioxide and the inert gases?

Nitrogen is relatively insoluble in body tissues and therefore cross alveolar- capillary membranes to limited extent. Oxygen crosses the membranes quite easily and gets consumed by cellular respiration. If we were to breath 100% oxygen the alveoli of the lungs (where gas exchange happens) would progressively collapse as oxygen gets continuously removed from the alveoli. Nitrogen stays behind in the alveoli, having a splinting effect on them, keeping them open. Without nitrogen in the lungs, breathing 100% oxygen would quickly turn the lungs into a tissue looking more like liver than lung tissue. That’s because of oxygen toxicity, gradually solidifying lung tissue. So nitrogen is life saving. Another gift from nature, without which lung breathing creatures as we know them won’t exist.
