A haploid cell is one that has chromosomes which are half the normal number of chromosomes found in diploid cells.
Sperms and ovas which are the male and female gametes are haploid in nature which results in a zygote (1st cell in a human) containing twice the amount of haploid chromosomes resulting in a zygote, a normal diploid.
