If plasma membrane is not flexible then it would be like cell wall no phosholipids and allowing anything to enter the cell.

Lets think what would happen...
Lets assume that the plasma membrane is not selectively permeable..
Now the unrequired molecules (chemicals) are entering the cell.
These molecules are abrupting the normal working of the cell.
The cytoplasmic composition of the cell is increasing which is causing it to divide more rapidly.(Tumour or cancer)...
