Answer:

The poet describes a tiger is walking in his little cage in the zoo. The tiger has beautiful stripes on his skin and has velvet like soft paws. But the tiger is not happy and is quite angry about being captured in the cage.

The poet says that if the tiger is not captured in the zoo cage, he would have been hiding himself in shadow, sliding the long grass near some water body, in order to catch its prey deer who comes near the water hole.

The tiger would have terrorised the villagers who live at border of the forest. But the reality is totally opposite to this. He is locked in a cage which was made up of strong concrete material and helpless there. He could not show his power to the visitors as his all strength is behind the bars of the cell, therefore the tiger ignores the visitor who come to see him at zoo
