I think that it needs to be all about them. That is. “What’s in it for them”. What you can do for them. Check in word count how many times you use the word “I” and find a way of re-wording it to the word “you”. To engage the audience, instead of telling them, ask them first. As an example, “What do you think would be the best way…”, then pause to allow them to think about it, and that’s important, and then give them your take on it. The more you can engage the audience and make it less about you the better. If you prepare and don't rely on notes, or use dot points as a back up, the audience will feel that you are a person who prepares and puts in. A prepared speech that allows you to speak confidentially gives them confidence in you. And above all, be passionate about your topics and the role your seeking. And most importantly, “Passion trumps technique every time” and then everything else will wall into place automatically and naturally.
