. What would you observe when (i) calcium oxide is added to water?
(ii) Barium chloride solution is added to sodium sulphate solution? Write the reaction involved in each case.

1 - When water is added to calcium oxide (quicklime), it will be converted to calcium hydroxide (slaked lime) with the liberation of enormous amount of heat.

equation= CaO+H₂O=Ca(OH)²+heat

It is an exothermic reaction. Calcium hydroxide is an alkali.

2- when barium chloride is added to sodium sulphate it will be converted to barium sulphate [ppt] and sodium chloride .

equation= BaCl2 (aq) + Na2SO4 (aq) --> 2 NaCl (aq) + BaSO4 (s)

this an double displacement reaction
