Abu Rayhan Beruni wrote the tahiqiq-i Hindi.

He travelled to South Asia in 1017 and authored a study of Indian culture (Tahqiqma li-l-hind...) after exploring the Brahmanical traditions and Hinduism practiced in India during those days.
