Alimentary Canal is the pathway through which our food passes. It includes our Mouth(Buccal cavity), Oesophagus, Stomach, Liver& Pancreas (secrete their juices to digest the food), Small Intestine & Large Intestine.

PROCESS:

•We take in food through our Mouth, there a liquid name as Saliva is present (it consists of Salivary Amylase which acts on carbohydrates & convert it into simple substance as Sugar)

•The food then passes through Oesophagus with a rhythmic contraction called as Peristaltic movements.

•The food then reaches our Stomach, there HCL is present. HCL has the main function to activate the protein digestive enzymes (i.e Pepsinogen→Pepsin & Prorenin→Renin)

•Then the food is again reabsorbed in Small Intestine 90% of the digestion and absorption of food occurs, the other 10% taking place in the stomach and large intestine. The main function of the small intestine is absorption of nutrients and minerals from food.

Hope it helps you!
Have a great day!

The alimentary canal is mainly referred to as the pathway by which food enters our body and moves out through the anus after digestion. It is a tube-like structure which starts from the mouth and ends in the anus..
