Khilafat movement was started in 1919. It was started by Mahatma Gandhi and Ali brothers.

This was started because after the defeat of ottoman sultan of Islam ( the khalifa). Ali brothers thought that it was the time to start a movement against Britishers so the khilafat movement was started.
