Electrons remain in valence band. They cannot move freely. Examples of insulators include glass, rubber, polythene, plastic, wood and diamond. Semiconductors: They are poor conductors of heat and electricity. The space between valence band and conduction band is small .

Insulators are the substances which does not allow electric current to pass through them.

ex :- wood, plastic.

Semi Conductors are substances which has property intermediate between the metals and the non-metals. They sometimes act as metals and sometimes non metals. ex:- silicon.
