whats difference B/w gift and dowry when girls father gives her 1 cr something like Voluntary funding?

Gift is something with is give willingly and with his own reach.. But when it comes about dowry it is been forcefully demanded... But according to our ancisters it is necessary for a girl to bring dowry for herself.. Because those money or gifts were for her comfort itself.. But its completely illegal so I stand against it...
