Whats difference b/w rate law and law of mass action

Rate law applies to speed of reaction. Law of mass action applies to extent of reaction.

Example 2N2O5 - 4NO2 + O2

By law of mass action Rate of reaction is directly proportional to[N2O5]^2

But by Rate Law, Rate of reaction is directly proportional to [N2O5]^1

In Law of mass action rate depends on the stoichiometric ratios of the general balanced chemical equeation but its not so in the case of rate law. the depends on conc.is calculated experimaentally
