The Home Coming by Rabindranath Nath Tagore is a poignant story of a 14 year old boy named Pathik. Back in the village he was a happy go lucky person, who always played boyish pranks and has the fun that is common to children of his age. However, life lost all its charms when Pathik was sent to Calcutta. Rather than love he got insult, beating, and contraption. This made Pathik unhappy and badly affected his development in school; the despised boy fell sick and died.
EXPLANATION:
- According to me, Phatik was relocated from the village life that was full of pleasure and mischief to a life in the city where he had none who could love him or be affectionate towards him.
- He realised the values and importance of home and love owing to inattention from his uncle’s family and being separated from his mother. Pathik loved nature and was used to the village life, however, ended up being surrounded by the walls which was difficult for him to adjust too. With all these, Pathik falls sick.
- At the time of his illness Pathik who was a wild boy turned mature and began to realise what is home.
