Whats happen when sulphur react with oxygen

When sulphur is burnt (oxidized) it reacts with oxygen forming sulphur dioxide or sulphur monoxide ( if 2 molecules of sulphur)
S + O2 => SO2
OR
2S + O2 = SO

Sulphur reacts with  oxygen to give sulphur dioxide. Which is an acidic oxide.
