Hey !!

                       PHOTO DIODE

1. Photo diode is a transducer which takes light energy and converts it to electrical energy.

2. It creates electricity when exposed to light.

3. It conducts electric current in similar proportion as the amount of light which falls on it.

4. Photo diode has two terminals ; anode and cathode

5. It is a pn junction which consumes light energy to generate electric current.

6. It is referred to as photo-detector, photo-sensor or light detector.

7. It is specially designed to operate in reverse bias condition where p-side is connected to negative terminal of battery and n-side connected to positive terminal of battery.

8. It is sensitive to light as when light or photons fall on it, it easily converts light into electric current.

9. Photo diodes can be pn junction photo diode, Avalanche photo diode or PIN photo diode.

10. Photo diode operates in reverse bias in a circuit where anode gets connected to the ground of a circuit and cathode gets connected to positive voltage supply of the circuit.

11. In photo diode circuit, current flows from the cathode to anode when exposed to light.

12. Photo diode is capable of converting light energy to electrical energy and can be expressed as a percentage known as ''Quantum Efficiency'' (Q.E)

photodiode is a semiconductor device that converts light into an electrical current. The current is generated when photons are absorbed in the photodiode. Photodiodes may contain optical filters, built-in lenses, and may have large or small surface areas.
