First of all,Olympic games are divided into two types
a) Summer Olympics
b) Winter Olympics.
>> The Olympic Games are heldevery four years, with the Summer and Winter Games alternating by occurring every four years but two years apart.
So let's understand this with a example.
Note that these years are just imaginary.
If summer Olympic games are held in 3002
But a winter Olympic will be held just after two years from summer Olympics that is 3004
then the next *summer* Olympics will be held after 4 years that is in 3006.
The next Olympics after summer are winter which will be held in 3008.

Answer:
The summer and winter games are each held every four years (an Olympiad). Until 1992, they were both held in the same year. Since then, they have been separated by a two year gap. The original Olympic Games were first recorded in 776 BC in Olympia, Greece, and were celebrated until AD 393.
