All calendars were developed for improving agricultural outputs. Calendars are solar and lunar types. Firstly solar is based on revolution of earth around the sun and lunar is based on rotation of moon around the earth.

As moon starts revolving with waxing 15 days cycle and waning 15 days cycle around the earth, will give only one month which will not give sufficient data for doing agriculture and farming.

Solar calendars are not precise but when mixed with lunar calendars, years and seasons like mansoon, summer, winter, rainy, spring can be calculated at accuracy which will help farmers in doing agriculture, cultivation, land tilling, type of crop, estimation of rainy days etc.

Indian farmers even to this day depend on timely rains for agriculture.
