Explanation:

It's Devendra Fadnavis' (DF) birthday today. Happy birthday. This is an exciting, "young", dynamic, effective and increasingly popular CM of Maharashtra. We can safely call him "young" because he is same age as Rahul Gandhi. DF has done a very good job running a relatively stable government despite being in minority (122 seats as against 144 needed) with a cantankerous ally - Shiv Sena who criticize him almost every day.

He was also a relative greenhorn compared to the Maratha Stalwarts of Congress NCP who have ruled the state for years...these are illustrious families who have an iron grip on many parts of Maharashtra - Pawars, Nilengekars, Kadams, Chauhans, Deshmukhs and so on..

Another drawback he had was his caste i.e. Brahmin. Brahmins have a tough time in Maharashtra especially in politics...it was an unwritten rule that a Brahmin cannot really become a CM. Modi-Shah took a big gamble by making him the CM and it has paid off well.

He has implemented the Jal Yukta Shivar scheme (rural micro irrigation) which has transformed the water situation in the countryside. I have spoken to quite a few people who vouch for it's success. He has also stood his own amongst the Maratha giants and seems to have become popular as can be seen from the election victories he has delivered across the board. People in villages say grudgingly "He has done well despite being a Brahmin". Good future for a smart politician.

A final aspect that is very interesting - recall the BJP CMs of the last generation i.e. Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Raman Singh, Vasundhara Raje to some extent and of course Modi. All these folks were their own people - won and ruled based on own ability and performance especially when the Centre was against them most of the time. Since Modi's arrival at Centre and Shah's election machinery, the new gen BJP CMs have had it easy as someone else wins elections for them and they keep relying on Modi-Shah. DF is an exception, he has carved out own space, campaigns himself without calling Centre and has shown results.

Hope he continues to grow and we see more of him in the future!!
