It indicates the rate of power consumption, volts times amps at rated voltage. This number tells you how much it will cost to operate the bulb. Note that it does not tell you how much light the bulb emits, which is the lumin rating. A 12 watt LED bulb emits as many lumins as a 60 watt incandescent, so sometimes LED bulbs are advertised as 60 watt equivalent. But don’t be fulled. LED’s are not equivalent, but superior in every metric. LED’s use 1/5th the energy of incandescents, they last at least 10 times as long, and you have your choice of shades (soft white like an incandescent, bride white or sunlight).
