Group 2 contains alkaline earth metals, means they have 2 valence electrons in their outermost shell.

Beryllium have electronic configuration as

1S² 2S²

which means it has its 2 valence electrons in outermost shell. So, it is considered to be placed in 2nd group.

18th group contains non reactive noble gases which have fully occupied outermost shells (eg. Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton, Xenon, Radon)

Hence, Beryllium can't be placed in 18th group, the most suitable group for Be is 2nd group.
