Solution :

  • The amount of heat liberated when one mile of substance burnt is called enthalpy of combustion
  • Given , on combustion of 0.5 mole , liberates -242KJ of heat
  • 0.5 mole ------> -242KJ
  • 1 mole ----------> x KJ
  • Upon cross multiplying ,
  • 0.5x = 1×(-242)KJ
  • x = -242/0.5 KJ
  • x = -484 KJ

Therefore , enthalpy of combustion is -484KJ/mol
