If we have 1 mole of Al2(SO4)3 there are 2 moles of Al for every 12 moles of oxygen. So the ratio of O to AL is 12/2 or 6/1.

If we start with 0.5 mol of Al, then the O is .5 X 6/1 = 3 moles
