When 1 is added to each of 2 numbers their ratio becomes 1:2 and when 5 is subtracted from each of them, their ratio is 5:11. the difference of the number is​

let the two numbers be a and b

when 1 is added to both the numbers then the ratio becomes:-

a+1/b+1=1/2

⇒2a+2=b+1

⇒2a-b= -1 let this be equation (i)

now, when 5 is subtracted from both the numbers then the ratio becomes:-

a-5/b-5=5/11

⇒11a-55=5b-25

⇒11a-5b=30 let this be equation (ii)

now solving the equation (i) and (ii) to find out the value of a and b:-

we get a=35 and b=71

hence the two numbers are  35 and 71
