When 1787 is rounded off nearest ten, we get 1790.

Given:

The number 1787.

To Find:

The number obtained on rounding off 1787 to the nearest ten.

Solution:

For rounding off to the nearest ten, we need to follow the rules given below:

Case I: While rounding off to the nearest ten, if the digit in the unit's place is between 0 – 4 i.e.,  the number is < 5 then the unit digit is replaced by 0.

Case II: While rounding off to the nearest ten, if the digit in the unit's place is between 5 to 9 i.e., the number is > 5 but < 10, then the unit's place is replaced by ‘0’, and the tens place is increased by 1.

In 1787, we observe that the unit's place =  7 , which is greater than 5.

So as per the given rules to round off 1787 to the nearest ten, we will replace the digit in the unit's place '7' replaced by ‘0’, and the digit in the tens place is increased by 1 i.e., it becomes 8 + 1 = 9.

∴ The required number is 1790.

Hence, when 1787 is rounded off nearest ten, we get 1790.
