When 2-butyne is treated with h2/lindlars catalyst, compound x isproduced as the major product and whentreated with na/liq. Nh3it produces y asthe major product. Which of the followingstatements is correct ?

by lindlars catalyst CIS alkene ,that is, CIS2 butene is formed but by Na and liq. NH3 trans alkene is formed and this reaction is called birch reduction.

hence X is cis2butene and y is trans2butene.
